1. Chattanooga
Chattanooga is a great place to visit if you’re looking for a great place to hike, a trip to the Tennessee Aquarium or a couple of bridges to cross, by bike or on foot. It’s one of our favorite cities to get away to. We personally love the Creative Discovery Museum, Rock City, and Ruby Falls.
Read about our other favorite attractions, where we like to stay, and where we always eat, HERE.
2. The Smoky Mountains:
Whether it’s camping, or staying in a cabin. The Smoky Mountains are one of our favorite places to be, especially when the sun is out and the birds are chirping — which is why Spring Break trips here are always fun.
If you’re looking to camp, stay at KOA in Townsend or at Elkmont inside the national park. If you’d rather stay in Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg, of course Wilderness at the Smokies is our favorite. We love, love, love Dollywood, all the dinner theater options, and of course spending time in the national park.

3. Louisville
This is someplace we’ve traveled to overnight, but we have never really spent any time in Louisville. It’s on our list to visit soon.
4. Mammoth Cave National Park:
We visited Mammoth Cave last year and had such a great time inside the park. We camped outside the national park and decided next time we visit (which we hope to be this year), we will camp at the campground inside Mammoth Cave park. There is SO much to do with your kids in and around the national park.

5. St. Louis:
Again, another place we’ve driven through or stayed overnight, but a place that is on our list to visit soon when we have more time to stay and explore. Everyone we have talked to who has been to St. Louis LOVES it and says it’s a great weekend trip for the family. More to come on our trip to St. Louis, soon.
6. Atlanta:
Atlanta. What’s there not to love about this city? I grew up here and maybe that is why I hold it so dear. Whatever the reason is, there’s SO much to do with your family in this town. From Braves games to IKEA, to Six Flags, to fun shopping areas, to Lake Lanier, to the Coca-Cola Museum, to the Georgia Aquarium, and so much more. It’s one of our favorites.

7. Chicago, IL
One of my favorite cities of all time. There is SO much to do there and so much to see, I can’t even begin to tell you what is my favorite. I’m looking forward to taking the kids there sometime soon and will report back with their thoughts on the city and what we loved doing as a family.
8. Asheville, NC
Now, it’s your turn. What are some of your favorite getaway destinations with your family?

I Love Chattanooga! My husband and I went to college just outside it, and we lived there right after we were married. My husband would love this list! He was born in Nashville and lived in Atlanta from the time he was 5 until he went to college, so he has visited so many of these places.

I have always wanted to visit Nashville! Now I know of a lot of great places to visit around there too! They all sound awesome!

I’ve never heard of Mammoth! I will have to check that one out, we’ve been looking to do a fun camping trip! We also have yet to visit Chattanooga. We have wanted to go for three years now lol!

I’ve never been to Nashville but it definitely looks like there are a lot of great spots to visit from there!

These all look like great options! I live in Utah and because it’s a larger state, getting to other places takes longer. But I’d love to visit any one of the places you mentioned at some point.

We visited Mammoth Cave National Park a couple of years ago and we loved it. These are some great ideas for spring break!
