I have a 3 year old who loves to do “school” since he sees his brother doing school work all the time. I wanted more than just an ABC Workbook. So, I searched and searched through lots of blogs with ideas on Letter of the Week.
I came across this one and fell in love. We are getting lots of ideas from her blog but we’re making it our own as well.
What You’ll Need:
- 3 ring binder
- printer paper
- computer printer {to print off templates}
- construction paper
- markers
- glue and scissors
- hole punch
- other art supplies that are crucial to doing arts & crafts with preschoolers
What You Can Do:
DAY ONE:
- Browse the internet {be careful not to spend too much time on this because it can get time consuming. There is so much out there!} for printables and letter templates. Find the letter that you like and print them. I like the ones from Quality Kids Crafts.
- Let your child color or watercolor or decorate the letters however you’d like. You can do “cotton balls” to decorate the letter Cc, “feathers” to decorate the letter Ff, and so on.
- Cut, glue your letter on to construction paper. Then place it in your binder.
DAY TWO:
- Review your letter that you decorated from the day before and the sound it makes.
- Browse the internet again and find a craft that goes with that letter. You can google “Letter A crafts for preschoolers” or something similar to that and find TONS of ideas!
- Do your craft, let it dry, and place it in your binder.
DAY THREE:
- Review your work from this week. Go over your letter, the sound, and the craft.
- Find coloring sheets from coloring books or the internet to color together. Talk about the coloring page together.
DAY FOUR:
- Cut out pictures from the newspaper or magazines that start with that letter that you’re working on for the week. Glue them to card stock or construction paper and place it in your binder.
DAY FIVE:
- Review your work.
- Use the LeapFrog Enterprises Magnetic Alphabet. WE LOVE THIS TOY and it really does help your preschooler learn his/her letters and sounds.
