I get asked quite a bit what fair trade and ethical fashion really is. Ethical Fashion is an umbrella term to describe ethical fashion design, production, retail, and purchasing. It covers a range of issues such as working conditions, exploitation, fair trade, sustainable production, the environment, and animal welfare. Fair Trade is is an social movement whose stated goal is to help producers in developing countries achieve better trading conditions and to promote sustainability.
I first learned about fair trade a few years ago through a dear friend. When she explained what it was and how I could make a difference, I immediately fell in love with the idea and wanted to purchase fair trade products as often as I could. Of course, we can’t purchase everything fair trade, but we can do as much as we can. There are so many fair trade companies and organizations out there, you could almost buy ethically for anything you may need. I love how the Let’s Be Fair blog puts it in this image.
Lauren from Serving From Home has a great list of different Fair Trade companies you should check out. A few of my personal favorites are:
- Beautiful and Beloved
- Better Life Bags
- Mercy House Kenya
- Noonday Collection
- The Root Collective
- Work of Worth
- Trades of Hope

- Tieks
- Sole Hope
- Sseko
