It’s that time of year for family traditions. Traditions can be made year round, but it seems during the holidays, there are lots of traditions being held. While our family has a few that we always do every year, there is always room for more! That’s why this year, I’m officially beginning The 24 Days of Christmas Books tradition.
I’ve seen this on Pinterest and Facebook several years in a row but never got around to preparing for it. This year, I did and it’s going to be one that we continue each year I am sure. Maybe it will be one of those they continue with their children.
It’s simple. Get 24 Christmas books – these can be books you already have or books you find at a bookstore. For us this year, I used 18 of the Christmas books we already had (some hadn’t even been read it) and purchased 6 at a local used bookstore a couple days ago. (Hint: Nashville and Knoxville friends, head over to McKay Used Bookstore to stock up on Christmas books. Several of the books I purchased this week were just $.50)
Once you have purchased your books, wrap them up in wrapping paper. Place a tag not the wrapped gift or use a Sharpie to label which day is which.
Then, each day leading up to Christmas Day, open one of the books at bedtime and read it together with your children. This is such a festive (and easy) tradition to start this year with your family!
I’d love you to join us (and it’s not too late to begin). Simply, take photos of you reading Christmas books together and use the hashtag #24DaysofChristmasBooks on your social media outlets.
What are some of your favorite Christmas books to read with your kids or some of your favorite books you remember reading as a kid?
