It’s that time of year when families start thinking about Advent books and studies, or what certain character they’re going to hide around the house for the kids during the Christmas season. We don’t do Elf on the Shelf (and you can see why here) and have done several really good Advent books together over the last few years. However this year, I’ve found a new book package and we are SO excited to start it — Christmas Dove.
If you love doing Elf on the Shelf but also want to try out Christmas Dove, I say go for it. This beautiful and simple book places all the focus of Christmas on Jesus. Which is where it should be, right? The book consists of a daily devotional your family can read together and then, the calendar provides a service or giving activity. I don’t know about you, but there are some great Advent studies out there and great Christmas activities to do with your family, but a lot of them are missing the “service” part. So, when I saw this book package had that included, I literally clapped while sitting in my chair. The more I looked the more I found that each service activity wasn’t time consuming or expensive.
What’s included in the package?
- daily dove reports
- fabric dove
- complete supply list
- parent guide
- beautifully illustrated devotional book
The Christmas Dove is all about seeing the need and making things better.
We also have the prayer calendar which is a great addition to the book package. Each month focuses on a different people group from the Christmas Dove pack and includes a targeted and intentional prayer prompt for each day. In January, you will pray specifically each day for the homeless, while in February the focus will be your neighbors, and so on. These daily prompts focus on their needs, resources, their hearts and salvation, and then our own hearts toward them.
