Created To Be His HelpMeet – Chapter One

I’m so excited to be a part of this bible study with you lovely ladies! If you haven’t picked up your copy of the book yet, no big deal, you can still follow along and chime in until you have your copy. Ohh, and don’t forget to pick up the snazzy button to display on your personal site.

I’ll be going through my favorite points throughout the chapter and expanding on them in my posts. Feel free to do the same or be as creative as you’d like with your posts and discussions.


{I know this book can be controversial for some, but that isn’t keeping me from taking what is in this book and applying what needs to be applied in my own life/marriage. All books have things that we can take with us and things that we can throw out according to our own personal lifestyle. Help Meet Bible Study


Part One: “The Help Meet”

– “What does being a help meet mean? 
What does God teach concerning my role as a help meet?”

Chapter One: “God’s Gift”

“A wise woman doesn’t take anything for granted. 
She is thankful to be loved and seeks to make herself more lovely.”

I love how Debi puts it in the very first paragraph. “If you are a wife, you were created to fill a need, and in that capacity you are a “good thing”, a helper suited to the needs of a man. This is how God created you and it is your purpose for existing. You are, by nature, equipped in every way to be your man’s helper. You are inferior to none as long as you function within your created nature, for no man can do your job, and no man is complete without his wife. You were created to make him complete, not to seek personal fulfillment parallel to him. A woman trying to function like a man is as ridiculous as a man trying to be like a woman.”

WOW! She laid it on thick already in the first chapter. She definitely put me in my place. A place where I need to be. I no longer need to be the one who runs the entire household. Yes, I am the wife, the mom, the keeper of the home, but I am not in control. I do not have the final say on things around here. My place as a wife is to be his encourager, confidante, and best friend. When he needs advice and help, I need to be the one to help. Not the one with the word on how it WILL be handled.

“Men are created to be helpers of God. Jesus willingly became a helper to the Father. The Holy Spirit became a helper to the Son. God made you to be a help meet to your husband so you can bolster him, making him more productive and efficient at whatever he chooses to do. You are not on the board of directors with an equal vote. You have no authority to set the agenda. But if he can trust you, he will make you his closest advisor, his confidante, his press secretary, his head of state, his vice-president, his ambassador, his public relations expert, maybe even his speech writer–all at his discretion.”

This is so true! How many times do I try to be the CEO or President of our household. Probably more times than I’d like to admit. I love how she put it. I’m not on the board of directors. But if I am a help meet he trusts and has confidence in, he’ll make me his closest advisor. I will be up there with him. God made man to be the head of the household, not woman. I truly believe this. I also think there is a line between being a doormat (which I DO NOT think she is implying here) and having “say” in what goes on with decisions and within the home.

“A perfect help meet is one who does not require a list of chores, as would a child. Her readiness to please motivates her to look around and see the things she knows her husband would like to see done. She would not use lame excuses to avoid these jobs. A man would know he had a fine woman if she were this kind of helper. Such a blessed husband would receive honor from other men as they admire and praise his handy wife.”

“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband.” (Proverbs 12:4)

Wow, I need to do more of this. I probably have that list of chores (literally and non-literal as well) for my husband and I’m sure it drives him crazy. He wants me to trust him and know that what he is doing is best for the family. I need to be more “ready” to please and do things for him.

Time To Consider:

*God’s perfect will for my life is that I be a help meet to my husband. Not the one who runs the house. I do have a choice in how good my marriage will be. (1st Cor. 11:8-9)

-MAKE A NEW HABBIT-
Think of ways you can be a helper to your husband this week. Start today.

-GETTING SERIOUS WITH GOD-
What do the following words/traits mean or how do they relate to a woman of God?
1. Virtue
2. Graciousness
3. Wisdom
4. Prudence
5. Goodness

-A GOOD HELP MEET HAS A PASSION TO BE OF SERVICE-
To me being a help meet goes even beyond my marriage. It goes out into the fields of my family, friends, people I do not even know. But it begins with my husband then children. After being a great service to these, it will come natural and spill out into other areas of my life.

So, until next week, lets think of ways we can be of service more to our husband and families. I’m so excited to read what you all have learned in this chapter throughout the week. It is my hope and prayer that we can grow together as well as within our marriages this week.
