This will be our first year to really dig in and start homeschooling with our oldest (who is now 4.5). We’ve done some smaller things (Teach Your Child To Read In 100 Easy Lessons & other workbooks together with him), but this coming fall or spring (can’t decide when we’re really going to start Kindergarden) will be our first time to homeschool. So, with that being said, we haven’t had an opportunity to just “refresh” from the previous year. But, I am refreshing for the months of June and July and August I’m digging in deep. I’ll be buying the curriculum and starting either in September (if we start in the fall) or in January. By “refresh”, I mean I’m trying to relax and enjoy the summer with him. I dont want to stress about curriculum and go to every single convention out there, but I will be attending a couple and am still learning about homeschooling from all you wonderful homeschool moms.
I was an education major (Elementary Education) in college and my sister homeschools her 6 children, so homeschooling and being the teacher have always been “me”. I remember playing school down in my school room even through high school – yes, seems weird. But being a teacher (especially to my children) has always been something I’ve wanted to do.
So, my “refreshing” time is a little different than those who have been homeschooling for 1+ years. I’m not really taking a break from all the books and papers, but not stressing over what we’re going to do and just really enjoying taking it all in.
A homeschool blog that I have recently found and LOVE is Home Is Where You Start From.

You identified it – "not stressing"! I know we're going to busy all summer, too – I love doing activities with my daughter – but I'm not going to stress over how behind we are or trying to keep to schedule… 🙂
Ohhh, startin out is fun! Make sure you give yourself loads of time and chances to find out what will work best for you and how God created you and your kiddos as you start. I remember playing school when I was little too and I am also an ed major! Homeschooling is great, I love it!

Hi Meghan!
So nice to meet you through the Homeschool Village.
We started homeschooling our oldest around the same age you're starting yours. Those are such sweet memories. I love your attitude of just enjoying your time with him.
Love your blog – I'm following!
Blessings,
Shannon
How fun to be starting Kindergarten soon! Hope you guys enjoy your summer as you gear up for the Fall (or Spring). ♥ Michelle
(visiting through both the Homeschool village and iFellowship) 🙂
I love Jenny at Home is Where You Start From! So glad y'all are getting to know her too! Homeschool conferences and curriculum fairs can be awesome places to gather ideas and get fired up! So excited for you! This will be an amazing journey in your life!
Yes, don't stress!! Enjoy your time with your child and all will fall into place. 🙂 Have a blessed evening!
I sure wish I could have gone to our homeschool convention. I was too nervous to go by myself and yet didn't have anyone to go with.
Can't wait to dive into figuring out curriculum, but taking a step back this week. 😀
Great to meet you! Stopping by from Homeschool Village! 😀

I always loved homeschooling conferences and used to attend the Christian Home Educators of Colorado conference every year. I always found that very rejuvenating and inspiring before the new school year. As someone who homeschooled my children all the way through high school, I can only say enjoy preparing for an amazing life adventure!
I am with you on setting everything aside and enjoying the summer with my children! That's one way I'm refreshing too.
I remember starting out with my older daughter. It was exhilarating and nerve-wracking all at the same time. Like you, I had played school even through high school and even taught in the public school system for 5+ years.
I was very nervous my first year, afraid that I was going to do something "wrong." I've relaxed more now, and I'm enjoying homeschooling more! You'll do great. Just relax and enjoy the journey! It's great!
