Typically, Fridays are good days; GREAT days for most. It signals the start of the weekend and the end of the work or school week.
Even if it has been a bad day, or rough week, we can almost always refer to Friday as a good day. So what makes “Good Friday” so good, so seperate from all the other “good Friday’s during the year?
Most of us probably know Good Friday is part of the Easter weekend for Christian people. This is the day Jesus was crucified on a Cross, murdered brutally, despised and beaten bloody, killed without cause. What is so Good about that?! Horrid-Bloody-Brutal-Torturous, a man’s Death; not just any man, The Son of God .
Not everyone believed he was who He claimed to be, hence, put on trial, He was ordered to die the worst kind of death. Death by crucifixion, a cross to bear, to be hung on , His shoulders to bear the sin and shame of all m
We, as Christians, who know this Jesus, know some of His character traits, for those who may not know or need a reminder ; here are a few: “Holy-Healer-Love of all mankind, Peaceful, Sinless, Redeemer, Friend, Servant, Savior and GOOD! He is only good!
So, why is it “Good Friday” when for some it would be considered one of the worst, darkest of days? It wasn’t what his Mother, family, disciples followers, or friends would have referred to as “Good Friday.”
Even though Jesus himself, with all the compassion and love He could muster, foretold His death and tried to prepare them. They knew and understood Who He was and why He came, and yet, it was a very-very bad Friday.
They lost a Son, a brother, a leader, and a friend. They grieved, they hurt, they anguished. They mourned just like we do when we lose a dear loved one, and yet Jesus had prepared them, told them He would see them again. Showed them how to become a servant/leader when He humbled himself and washed the dirt and dung from their feet.
Through His life Jesus showed them that He came to save us all from sin– from ourselves, to restore our souls, th heal us- to sacrifice His own life so that we may live eternally with Him in Heaven and have fullness of life on earth.
He was born to die – on a Friday- a “Good Friday”
What we “Jesus followers” celebrate on what seems to be such a dark Friday, is the fact that light breaks forth 3 days later and Jesus comes back to life!
He was resurrected on the following Sunday- Easter Sunday.
Even though He later ascends into Heaven to sit at the right hand of His Father God, He leaves us with a gift, The Holy Spirit, to live in us, a part of Him left behind- inside of us. To comfort, strengthen, teach and help grow our faith. To Love others, to serve others and to be like Him with skin on to those who need Him.He left us with the hope of everlasting life with Him in Heaven when we; and other believers leave this earth.
A life with Him in Heaven, where there is no pain, no tears. No more evil, and children being sold as sex slaves and women who are beaten. Little boys without an earthly father to play baseball with.
There is no sickness, no more cancer, no more death! Christ in us the Hope Of Glory!
A world we can’t even imagine. A Love we can not fathom.
What a really-really Good Friday it was, if you look at it with this perspective!
What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Romans 8:31-34
He also prayed for those he left behind.
” My prayer is not that you take them out of the world, but that you protect them from the evil one.” John 17:15
Let us never forget that ” God so loved the world that He gave His own Son that we may have everlasting life” John 3:16
For those of you who know Him- this resurrected King- Cherish this Dark Day by remembering why it is a GOOD FRIDAY.
Jesus said ” I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble, but take heart! I have overcome the world. John 16:33
I don’t know about you, but God speaks to my heart and soul through music.
This song reminds me of why we celebrate this gruesome death.
If you have not met this Jesus and want to have a relationship with him, please say this simple prayer :
God, I ask you to forgive me for my sins, I repent, turn away from my old behavior. I believe Jesus is Your Son and that He died and was raised to life so that I may one day live with you in Heaven. I understand that this salvation is a free gift that I can never repay. It is by Grace you are saving my life for eternity. I surrender my life now and choose to follow and serve You all the days of my life. In Jesus Name, Amen
